Faimon and Platt Speak at SxSW2010
On Saturday, March 13, Glenn Platt and Peg Faimon presented “Universities in the ‘Free’ Era” to an audience of 500 at the South by Soutwest (SxSW) interactive conference in Austin, TX. This internationally renowned event has thousands of attendees each year, and draws some of the most innovative professionals and academics from the interactive field.
The SxSW website describes the presentation: “MIT, Yale, Stanford, and others put lectures online. Chris Anderson argues all university lectures should be free. From Academic Earth to TED, it’s free. So what is the value-add of a university education? What models of higher education will survive? How will universities leverage the social web to reinvent themselves?”
The presentation was posted on SlideShare, international presentation slide sharing website, and has already been viewed well over 3000 times by a global audience. SlideShare posts the “Top Presentations” on their homepage and “Universities in the ‘Free’ Era” was the featured during Saturday and Sunday, and remains in the top four at the time of this post.
Following the presentation, Platt and Faimon were also interviewed for an IBM Podcast and by NPR Austin.
